nyfw 2022: bows, modesty, and plenty of pink

Updated: Feb 26, 2022

Three of my favorite fashion features were all on display at this year's New York Fashion Week: modesty, pink, and bows! When I noticed this common theme on multiple runways, I couldn't wait to share my thoughts!

so many bows:

This year's runways were full of bows, both subtle and outrageous, and I couldn't get enough! Jason Wu and Carolina Herrera, two of my beloved designers, elevated the bow trend to a new extreme. Jason Wu's marigold high-low was crafted of fine faille and maintained the timeless fit and flare shape, while his black and white mini boasted an oversized bow perfectly placed at the bodice and finished with an adorable bubble skirt. Carolina Herrera debuted a stunning long-sleeve shift dress embellished with a single black twisted bow.

Creative Director for Carolina Herrera, Wes Gordon, was optimistic that his new line would encompass a "bold, heart-pounding feeling," and he was undeniably correct. A genuinely jaw-dropping moment came with viewing the grandiose ballgown covered in black lace bows. This garment is truly a work of art masked as a dress.

so much pink:

From bright and flamboyant to soft and blush, pink appeared in a wide variety of designer collections, and I can never get enough of seeing this color on the catwalk.

I found myself drawn to these three alluring dresses among a sea of pink, each in a different silhouette and style. Jason Wu's ultra-feminine gown showcased a dramatic collar in the most vibrant of pinks. I chose another of Herrera's bow masterpieces, this time a pastel mini with a slew of bows atop the bodice and shoulder, and Markarian's romantic sweetheart neck gown with its delicate floral motif was nothing short of lovely. These swoon-inducing gowns came down the runway looking like pieces of candy! Check out my selection of pink dresses and shop for some sweets of your own to add to your closet!

so much modesty:

This year's New York Fashion Week had a magnificent representation of modest style. It's always incredible to see some of the world's most prestigious fashion brands showcasing the beauty of modesty.

As seen above are three of my top picks. Markarian's sophisticated ensemble combines a sleek leather jacket with a high-neck silver midi, and Carolina Herrera offered two playful matching sets: a dazzling color block and an oversized knit with floral accent detailing.

From Christian Siriano's brocade floral fit-and-flare, Carolina Herrera's sparkling tailored LBD, and Jason Wu's bow-fastened black and white midi, I'd happily add every one of these fabulous modest garments to my wardrobe.

my grand finale:

This piece is worthy of special recognition. It's clear from this ensemble alone Wes Gordon remained loyal to the iconic elegance of Carolina Herrera. The bright pink belted ball skirt paired with a simple, crisp white blouse is a Herrera signature, and my jaw remained on the floor until the model left the screen. I love everything about this number, the pink (obv!), the over-the-top skirt, and of course, the modesty! This design is conservative, yet it maintains a modern appeal, proving that modesty can be both contemporary and classic and always in style.

Thanks to all the glitz and glory of this fashion feast, I've decided to start imagining I'm walking my own runway anywhere I go from now on! Perhaps I've inspired you to do the same? Have errands to do? A taffeta ballgown will do! Are you up for the challenge?
